Behind the Scenes: The “Gourmet Donabe Rice” Photoshoot

The photoshoot took place in Isa City, Kagoshima Prefecture—one of the region’s premier rice-growing hubs, famed for its prized “Isa Mai” rice. Blessed with the pristine waters essential for rice cultivation, the region unfolds into sweeping, picturesque rural vistas.

“There is something deeply mystical about the way sunlight filters through the trees and dances upon the water.”

“I never realized the sky could feel so vast!
The breeze carries the rich scent of the earth.”

Tilling the soil, planting the seedlings, nurturing the crop, and harvesting the fruits of their labor to savor at the dining table—the local couple lives in serene harmony with nature, surrendering to the gentle rhythm of the four seasons. Even in the most quiet, ordinary moments of their daily life, genuine happiness overflows.

"Teranishi Family Abeno Nagaya"

Our location shoot was generously hosted at the historic “Teranishi Family Abeno Nagaya,” Japan’s only traditional row house designated as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property of Japan. Honoring its rich architectural history while coexisting seamlessly with modern streetscapes and contemporary living, its spirit echoes the very essence of Donabe Rice—where centuries-old craft harmonizes with modern daily life.

Located within a corner of this registered landmark, Kitchen Bar Kon serves casual yet refined Italian cuisine. The interior presents a deeply atmospheric, traditional Japanese space where guests can savor authentic culinary creations in a warm, relaxed setting.
