THE BEST HOMEMADE GRAPEFRUIT SORBET

A good dessert can transport you. Seriously, if it tastes just right, a couple spoonfuls of bright, fruity sorbet can transform a bitter January day into a mellow August afternoon during summer vacation. Well, this grapefruit sorbet is just that kind of dessert. It’s sweet, pucker-worthy and super refreshing. And you can make it at home in no time!

HOW TO MAKE GRAPEFRUIT SORBET

Start by making a simple syrup out of equal parts sugar and hot water. Once the simple syrup has cooled, add it to your Tiger blender along with the peeled, segmented grapefruit and lemon juice. Then just use the Pulse setting.

These next steps are important:

  1. Pour the blended mixture into a tray and stick it in the freezer for an hour.
  2. After an hour, mix well with a spoon.
  3. Freeze for an additional hour before serving.

While it may seem like an unneeded step, mixing halfway through ensures the fruity flavors are all properly distributed – and that your grapefruit sorbet will have a uniform texture throughout!

TIPS AND VARIATIONS

  • Use a different fruit. Tart grapefruit ticks a lot of yummy boxes. But it’s not the only fruity addition you can use! Other iconic sorbet flavors are blood orange, strawberry, mango, honeydew, peach and raspberry sorbet.
  • Add fresh ginger for zing. Grated fresh ginger introduces a slight spicy note.
  • Make it low sugar. If you’re watching your sugar intake, you can halve the amount. That will make your sorbet super tart with just a mild sweetness around the edges. The finished sorbet will also have an icier texture, rather than smooth.
  • Substitute the lemon juice for yuzu juice. Yuzu is a tart Japanese citrus with herbal and floral notes. If you can get your hands on it, use it instead of the lemon juice in this sorbet recipe. You’ll love it!
