To present Japanese traditional craft to people all over the world

Kamedatomi Dyeing Factory (Pagong)
×
Tiger Corporation

This is the second collaboration between Tiger and Kamedatomi Dye Factory (Pagong),
where artisans have been dyeing fabric piece by piece with care since the establishment of the Kyo-Yuzen workshop in 1919.
Rich colors and detailed patterns have been reproduced using modern technology, resulting in three types of vacuum-insulated bottles.

* Pagong is an apparel brand established by Kamedatomi Dyeing Factory.

What is Kyo-Yuzen?

Among a number of traditional crafts nurtured together with cultures in various regions in Japan,
Kyo-Yuzen, one of the traditional crafts in Kyoto, is a dyeing technique characterized by colorful and elegant patterns.

DESIGN CONCEPT

DESIGN CONCEPT

Kyo-Yuzen designs featuring auspicious motifs
that have been treasured in Japan for generations

Gosho-Doki〈DG〉

Gosho-doki is a type of pattern, which is said to be named after the practice of women serving at the Kyoto Imperial Palace (“Gosho”) who would take apart (“doki” means to unravel) short-sleeved kimonos passed down from court ladies and reuse the fabric.
With themes inspired by Noh theater and tales of the dynastic period, these landscape patterns feature a sense of depth and elegant motifs such as flowing water, grasses, flowers, palaces, ox-drawn carts, and fan shapes, which are arranged symbolically.

Fujikoshi-Ryu〈KF〉

This work was created in the final years of Katsushika Hokusai’s life.
It features Mt. Fuji, the symbol of Japan, and a dragon soaring into the sky, which is said to represent Hokusai’s own desire to strive for even greater heights.
Mt. Fuji is internationally recognized as a symbol of Japan, and it is considered an auspicious symbol representing wishes for health and longevity, protection from illness, and family safety.

(Property of the Hokusai Museum)

Ryujin〈GR〉

The design is based on the theme of the Noh song “Chikubushima.” During the Meiji and Taisho eras, it was commonly used in kimono, appreciated as a mark of refinement by owners of prominent shops and men of the zaibatsu conglomerates.
At the center is a powerful ryujin (dragon god), who is surrounded by small articles like musical instruments, treasure boxes, and Noh masks, forming a pattern that you will never grow tired of looking at.

Proprietary technique of layering to reproduce traditional Japanese beauty

The most notable feature of this vacuum-insulated bottle is the three-dimensional surface finish that matches the designs. Tiger’s proprietary technique using leading-edge technology comes into play to reproduce delicate textures and designs like Kyo-Yuzen.
Colors and fine patterns are layered carefully to reproduce the three-dimensional feel and texture of a motif.
The true value of our technique lies in the method of layering the patterns according to each design so as to approximate the texture inherent in the motifs, which include craftwork such as gold leaf to the nuances of kimono woven from dyed threads.

Like the Kyo-Yuzen dyeing technique,
patterns are carefully arranged one layer at a time to reproduce a three-dimensional feel and texture.
