New Options for the “Tiger Kamado”—the Rice Cooker Powered by Newspaper,
Not Electricity or Gas—Developed in Response to Feedback from Disaster Relief Sites
Launching “High Stand” for table-free cooking and “Multi Cover” for heat retention in winter
on February 5, 2026
Tiger Corporation (President: Yoshisato Kikuchi; Headquarters: Kadoma City, Osaka), a world leader in Heat Control Technology, is pleased to announce the release of the “High Stand for Tiger Kamado” and “Multi Cover for Tiger Kamado” on Thursday, February 5, 2026. These dedicated accessories are designed to further enhance the disaster preparedness capabilities and convenience of the “Tiger Kamado” (KMD-A100), a product that cooks rice using only newspaper as fuel, without the need for electricity or gas. Pre-orders begin today, Thursday, January 15, at the Tiger Online Store.

The “Tiger Kamado” was created in 2023—the centenary of the Great Kanto Earthquake—as a commemorative model for our company’s 100th anniversary. It has been highly acclaimed as a product that bridges the gap between “everyday meals” (normal times) and “emergency meals” (times of disaster). It has received numerous awards, including the “2024 Good Design Award Best 100” and the “Good Focus Award [Disaster Prevention & Recovery Design],” and is currently being adopted by local governments and voluntary disaster prevention organizations.
Development Background
We received specific feedback through surveys from households and disaster-conscious organizations using the product. Many requested solutions to “keep rice warm even in cold outdoor settings or evacuation centers” and to “set up the unit stably even on uneven ground.“
The “High Stand for Tiger Kamado (KMD-Z10H)” balances “usability”—optimized for working while seated on a folding chair—with “safety” to prevent tipping, allowing for safe and comfortable cooking even in locations without tables.
The “Multi Cover for Tiger Kamado (KMD-Z10M)” physically traps heat to maintain warmth. While the standard procedure requires adding newspaper fuel to maintain temperature during the “final steaming” phase, using this heat retaining cover makes that step unnecessary. It also acts as a sturdy protective shield for the main unit during storage and can function as a bucket when combined with the pouch.
Driven by our Vision to “spread joyous harmony throughout the world,” Tiger Corporation will continue to support happy family gatherings through the “Tiger Kamado”—enabling freshly cooked rice even without electricity—and its related products.

“Tiger Kamado” Product Introduction

The greatest feature is that it uses no electricity or gas. You can cook delicious “freshly cooked” rice with just one copy of a newspaper (36 pages for 3 cups of rice).
By alternately placing newspaper into two holes and lighting it, you repeat a process that creates the perfect heat control for delicious rice—traditionally described as “start low, then high” (hajime choro-choro, naka pappa). Once you get used to it, cooking is simple.

Developer’s Thoughts:
“In Japan, where natural disasters are frequent, I wanted to ensure that people could ‘eat warm meals anytime’ to maintain even a little physical and mental comfort in the harsh environment of a disaster. I conceived this product with that thought in mind and developed it aiming to create something truly necessary during disasters, incorporating feedback from actual disaster survivors.”
