A FULL MORNING POWER-UP IN SMOOTHIE FORM

It’s no secret that bananas, peanut butter and walnuts make a great, energy-packed breakfast. Bonus if you blend and drink them in a tasty morning smoothie. But we’ve found the secret weapon for elevating those superfood smoothies in the morning: just add coffee. The richness of drip coffee in this smoothie plays off the peanut butter’s nuttiness and the tropical notes of coconut cream. We’re also using condensed milk to impart a rich, smooth sweetness that makes the whole thing reminiscent of a good Vietnamese coffee. And a touch of cinnamon brings it all together.

HOW TO MAKE A COFFEE SMOOTHIE

Just place all the ingredients in the jar of a good blender and blend until uniformly smooth. That’s it! Easy.

Pro tip: use coffee that has been refrigerated beforehand. The colder the ingredients, the colder your smoothie.
We’ve found that dark roast coffee is more forward in terms of actual coffee flavor. And that lighter roasts tend to have higher levels of caffeine. Whatever roast you prefer, this is the coffee maker to extract the best out of your beans.

EXPERT TIPS AND VARIATIONS

Freeze the bananas before blending. This will ensure an even colder smoothie.

Adjust the thickness. Use coconut cream for a thicker smoothie. Or go with coconut milk for a thinner consistency.

Add more protein. For a pre or post gym elixir, add a scoop of your favorite protein powder before blending.

Make it vegan. Simply substitute the condensed milk for an extra ¼ cup of coconut cream instead and you’re good to go.

Go decaf. Love the flavor of coffee, but not the caffeine? Just use decaffeinated coffee.

Take it to go. If you’re more of a smoothie-for-lunch kind of person, just toss your blended coffee smoothie in an insulated travel mug and hit the road. It’ll stay perfectly cold!
