A TWIST ON THE TYPICAL BLUEBERRY SMOOTHIE
Blueberries make a mean breakfast smoothie! But there’s another unsung hero in the fruit world that doesn’t always share the limelight: avocados. Sure, they’re loaded with protein, fiber and plenty of good fat (the stuff your body needs). However, avocados are also unbelievably creamy. If you like your smoothies on the silky side, this one’s for you!
A NOTE ON FROZEN FRUIT
Frozen fruit is simply fresh fruit that has been flash frozen at peak ripeness. And we’re using frozen blueberries in this smoothie recipe for two reasons.
- Using frozen fruit makes your smoothie cold without having to resort to ice cubes. Ice cubes are great, but they can temper the brightness of flavors and water your smoothie down unless you drink it immediately.
- With a freezer full of frozen fruit, you never have to worry if your fresh blueberries may have passed their peak while sitting forgotten in the back of the fridge.
And whether you’re using blueberries – or huge frozen strawberries – frozen fruit is exactly the type of tough stuff your Tiger blender can’t wait to sink its blades into.
HOW TO MAKE A BLUEBERRY AND AVOCADO SMOOTHIE
Just pack your smoothie ingredients into your Tiger blender – and blend for a minute with the speed dial between 9 and 10. Breakfast is served!
BLUEBERRY SMOOTHIE TIPS AND VARIATIONS
- Try different frozen fruit. Fresh out of blueberries? No problem! Frozen strawberries are delicious in smoothies. We’ve also had great luck with frozen pineapple chunks, raspberries and blackberries.
- Make it tangy. Do you like a smoothie with even brighter flavors? Add a tablespoon of fresh citrus to the mix. Lemon juice and lime juice are obvious contenders. And, in a pinch, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar approximates the tang of citrus in fresh fruit smoothies as well.
- Give it some zing. Fresh ginger will deliver a zesty burn without being overtly spicy.
- Make it vegan. For a 100% plant based avocado and blueberry smoothie, simply omit the honey. Use agave nectar instead.
